Many of the cultural objects in the OCEC from the Caroline Islands were donated by Oberlin Missionary Robert Logan. This section seeks to contextualize these objects within Robert Logan's work as a Protestant missionary, taking into account the greater cultural and colonial circumstances of the Caroline Islands and the American missionary movement. Robert Logan's collection is a moment in time, in which Micronesian peoples were encountering a wide array of Westernizing forces. From Logan's personal accounts of his missionary activities, and greater data and records on the region's culture and history, these objects are placed within their cultural and historical frameworks.
